Akshay sheokand asks : if two trains are coming towards each other at a distance of 100m. length of trains are 60m and 80m traveling at the speed of 50m/s and 40m/s respectively.in how much time they will cross each other.rnrnplease explain briefly.

'Time of Crossing ' means the time between the instances when the engines meet and the the instance when the end of the last compartments meet total distance to be covered by each train:(60+80)m=140m relative velocity:(50+40)m/s=90m/s therefore, time taken=140/90s=1.56s now if u want to find the total time taken by each train to cross the other then add (100/50=2s) and (100/40=2.5s)respectively to 1.56 to get the ans

GIVEN:
a+(p-1)d=q    -- (1)   &
a+(q-1)d=p    -- (2)

subtracting (2) from (1)
we get , d = -1

now adding (1) & (2)

2a+(p+q-2)d = p+q
2a+(p+q-2) * -1 = p+q          since d = -1
2a-p-q+2 = p+q
2a = 2(p+q-1)
a = p+q-1
a - (p+q-1) = 0
a + (p+q-1)d = 0                    since d = -1
which is the (p+q)th term & is equal to 0.
