johny tony work x+x/3 x wage y+y/5 y for x+x/3 work pay for john is y+y/5 =480 then y=400 for x+x/3 work pay for tony is y+y/3=400+400/3=533.33

Let y takes N days to do the work

x takes N/4 days to do the work

according to the condition

N/4=N-27

3/4N=27

N=27x4/3

N=36 days

Time taken by y= 36 days

Time taken by x=36/4=9 days
